The grey is the most frequently reported non-human figure in the corpus and in the wider literature. The popular form entered the record with Betty and Barney Hill's September 1961 account; the wrap-around eyes were drawn in Barney's 1964 hypnosis sessions, days after an Outer Limits episode showed a being with the same feature, a point the corpus itself raises. Whitley Strieber's 1987 Communion cover fixed the face, and Strieber says on camera that his sketch 'massively influenced' how the being is drawn today.

Descriptions cluster tightly: a bulbous head, very large black eyes, a small nose and mouth, a thin neck and limbs, and skin described as grey, tan or brownish. Guests add detail that varies by source. Tim Alberino relays reports that they excrete waste through the skin and smell of ammonia and sulfur, have no sexual organs and no teeth. Lyn Buchanan says a grey who stood while he knelt was 'eye to eye' with him, which fixes a height of roughly a metre. Charles Hall says the greys' technology is poorer than the Tall Whites' but that they are far more numerous, so that most craft seen are theirs. The Nordic entered the record with George Adamski's 1952 account of 'Orthon', a Venusian met in the California desert, and spread through the 1950s contactee movement: George Van Tassel's Venusians, later Billy Meier's Pleiadians. Jorjani names all three in the corpus and treats their messages as deception. Charles Hall distinguishes his Norwegians from Tall Whites; the two groups must not inherit one another's encounter locations or craft.

Human-looking is an umbrella, not a fixed body type. The linked source-by-source dossier preserves different heights, hair colours, clothing and claimed identities. Brent Friedman describes a Scandinavian-looking man with longish blond hair on Orcas Island who greeted him by name and who, he says, 'spoke to me without opening his' mouth. When Jesse suggests a Nordic identification for the alleged Holloman occupants, James Fox instead relays Alan Sandler's description of Egyptian-like headwear and large eyes with vertical, catlike slits; Fox does not confirm the Nordic label in that exchange. Alberino retells a Karla Turner book account, with uncertainty about his recollection; it is not an abductee he personally interviews in this passage.

Where the accounts split is intent. The contactee frame has benevolent visitors urging disarmament. Jorjani's frame, built from Ingo Swann's remote viewing of a lunar city and from his own reading of Aryan myth, has a eugenic faction that is at once more advanced and hostile, and he retells a remote-viewing contact's story about three men at a diner who purported to be rebels from that society. This is not Jorjani's own encounter; the diner location is not established in the cited passage. Hall sits between: more patient and diplomatic than the Tall Whites, able to pass in a crowd.

The Tall White is almost entirely Charles Hall's. In six volumes titled Millennial Hospitality, and in the corpus interview, Hall says that as a duty weather observer on the Nellis ranges in 1965 to 1967 he was gradually approached by tall, pale beings who 'would stalk him and test him, appear suddenly, and vanish'. He describes parents, children and elders, an underground base with hangars at the north end of Indian Springs Valley, and craft that he says outperformed the greys' and that he says confirmed Einstein was wrong.

The features that mark the archetype are height and pallor, a thin frame, a life span he puts far beyond ours, a high-pitched speech that humans strain to hear, and electronics that read and place thoughts. Hall is careful to say the telepathy is technological: 'if you didn't know better, you'd think they were able to do telepathy'. Lyn Buchanan separately describes 'tall white guys' going in and out of a craft piloted by a grey, and Brent Friedman relays local lore about 'tall white people' who keep to themselves, so the phrase circulates beyond Hall.

The reptilian reaches the corpus at one or two removes. Daniel Sheehan relays a story from friends about a traumatised Area 51 worker 'led down into a basement' where he saw reptilian creatures; asked how they spoke, the answer was telepathy, in whatever language the listener knew. Sheehan also tells of a woman near ninety who found a friendly reptilian standing in her living room, who told her 'here I am' and left. Jesse Michels applies the word to the small 'J-type' Peruvian mummies: two to three feet tall, boxy bodies, faces like the Close Encounters beings, some with eggs inside.

Descriptions therefore vary widely, from a tall scaled humanoid to a small mummified body, and the corpus offers no consistent account of eyes, skin or gait. Jorjani's version is theoretical: in a Nordics-versus-reptilians framing he speculates that Nordics from Mars ended the dinosaurs, so the reptilian faction is cast as older claimant to the planet. The insect-like being first appears in the record as the crew of a craft said to have come down near the Trinity site in August 1945, twenty days after the test. As Jorjani summarises Vallée's Trinity, the witnesses described beings 'something like between a gray and a praying mantis', child-sized, bald, with teardrop eyes, no ears and long arms on narrow shoulders. Vallée's own telling in the corpus adds three fingers and a gliding motion. The account was collected decades after the event, so the archetype's first dated appearance and its first documentation are far apart.

The fullest first-hand description is a DARPA scientist's: 'big grasshopper big pre mantis thing big eyes and kind of a triangle head' that entered through a third-storey screen door, stood over him and conveyed 'don't be afraid ... we're trying to help you', before a violent sequence he says he cannot dismiss as a dream because his wife had been searching for him for hours. Lyn Buchanan says he saw a mantis-like figure seated in a row of human operators and looked away; he allows it could have been a soldier in a costume. Jorjani relays that the psychic Ted Owens claimed his powers came from two mantids named 'Twitter and Tweeter'.

In David Jacobs' abduction research, summarised by Tim Alberino, the 'insectalins' are the senior figures in the craft and the greys their creation. Jorjani takes a further step: one kind of grey 'can appear as a mantid. It can appear as an owl. It can shapeshift'.

Interpretations offered. The biological, organic species behind the greys (SPECULATION: Alberino, following Jacobs). A shape-shifting intelligence with no fixed form (SPECULATION: Jorjani). Sleep-state or dream imagery, which the DARPA witness himself weighed and rejected on the grounds of missing time (INFERENCE). The future-human reading was set out by Michael Masters, a biological anthropologist, in Identified Flying Objects (2019) and later books. Its clearest account is second-hand: Strieber's secretary Lorie Barnes told him that in 1954, lying in bed pregnant, she saw 'this horrible looking blue dwarf and behind it are a line of others just like it', which told her 'We're not here for you. The men in black entered the record with Albert Bender, who closed his flying-saucer research bureau in 1953 after, he said, three men visited him. Jorjani retells the stranger version: three men 'materialized in his attic', with 'glowing orange eyes', smelling of sulfur, who took him to an Antarctic base and later appeared in a cinema behind him. Gray Barker published Bender's story in 1956 and, as Bryce Zabel says, 'men in black doesn't belong to anybody. It goes back to the 50s. Maury Island and Gray Barker'. Peter Levenda traces the Maury Island thread to Fred Crisman, a man with a murky intelligence background.

Levenda's own account is the most detailed first-hand one. In 1990, unloading groceries at his Rhode Island house, he saw an old black Cadillac idling with a driver filming him through a wide-angle lens; when he approached, it left, and a 1960s station wagon pulled in to block him, from which two pale women in old cloth coats emerged, looking, he says, like 'Manson family members'. Zabel says a studio contact told him to get his actors 'out of the black suits today or we will shut down your production and burn your negative'. A Vietnam veteran who filmed the Phoenix boomerang says two men in dark suits in an unmarked vehicle came for the tape. Lyn Buchanan, summoned to the DIA, says 'The men in black are not aliens, okay? They're a hired professional', an interrogator and a listener.

The Varginha case began on 20 January 1996 when three young women reported a creature crouched near a wall in the Jardim Andere district. As one of them says in the corpus, 'It had these things like horns right on its head. Its skin was brown. And it looked like it had some some kind of oil all over its body. It had a huge foot. and its eyes were super wide and red'. Their Catholic upbringing made them think of a demon. Other witnesses say soldiers captured one or more beings, that a young military policeman who handled one died soon after, and that a being was treated at a regional hospital.

The hospital account carried in the corpus is a surgeon's. He describes a forearm, a hand with an opposable thumb and three fingers, a face and eyes he looked into 'as if I were a child' being reassured, a being that 'didn't talk to me' but conveyed that 'everything's all right', that kept looking out of the window, and that 'wasn't restrained'. The tridactyl is a category made by bodies rather than sightings. Jesse Michels describes the Nazca specimens as two kinds: 'J-types' about two to three feet tall with boxy bodies and faces like film aliens, some with eggs inside, and 'M-types', hominid-like, four to five feet, with 'organs, tendons, cartilage, and bones fully intact'. The little people enter UFO literature through Jacques Vallée's Passport to Magonia (1969), which set encounter reports beside fairy lore. In the corpus Vallée agrees that 'we've been seeing these things for thousands of years', and Jesse Michels puts the thesis plainly: non-human entities may have used 'intermittent reinforcement confusion deception and absurdity to drive human historical narrative', so that 'Celtic leprechauns in medieval Ireland angels and demons in the Bible and what we now call space aliens are all just the same thing'. The idea of a living being held after a crash runs alongside the Roswell story, which the corpus notes took place at the base of America's first atomic bomber squadron. In the corpus it has two carriers. Elongated skulls are an archaeological fact: many cultures bound infants' heads, and the Paracas skulls of Peru are the best-known result. On the evening of 11 October 1973 two shipyard workers, Charles Hickson, then in his forties, and Calvin Parker, nineteen, were fishing on the Pascagoula River when, they said, a craft appeared and three beings floated them aboard. Richard Dolan describes it as 'dome-shaped kind of craft ... almost like a cone'. Robert Hastings summarises Hickson's account: 'examined by an oblong shaped instrument that hovered around him he was completely paralyzed only his eyes could move'. For years the abduction was told as Hickson's alone; Parker later said he too had been taken.
