Terauchi, a veteran JAL captain, reported two lights and then a very large object shadowing his Boeing 747 freighter for about fifty minutes near Fairbanks; FAA radar briefly showed a return. The FAA released its file in 1987 and drew no conclusion. Kevin Knuth cites the case on the channel as one of the better documented pilot reports.
