On 24 June 1947 private pilot Kenneth Arnold reported nine bright crescent-shaped objects flying in echelon past Mount Rainier at a speed he estimated above 1,200 mph. Press coverage of his account produced the term "flying saucer". In the corpus the host places it two months before Roswell and notes earlier 1947 weather-bureau reports.
