On the nights of 19–20 and 26–27 July 1952 radar operators at Washington National Airport and Andrews AFB tracked unidentified targets while jets were scrambled; some pilots reported lights. The Air Force held its largest press conference since the war and attributed the tracks to temperature inversions. One corpus guest, a boy in DC that summer, recalls the sightings.
