Luis Elizondo

Luis Elizondo is a former Army counterintelligence officer who worked in the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence and says he directed the Advanced Aerospace Threat Identification Program, the successor to the Defense Intelligence Agency's AAWSAP effort. He resigned in October 2017, joined To The Stars Academy, and was the central source of the New York Times article that December that made AATIP and the Navy videos public. His 2024 memoir Imminent says he became convinced the United States holds non-human craft and biological remains.

His role has been disputed by the Pentagon itself. Spokespeople said in 2019 and 2021 that Elizondo had no assigned responsibilities on AATIP, then partly retracted, and Elizondo filed an Inspector General complaint alleging a campaign to discredit him. Christopher Mellon, Hal Puthoff and Jay Stratton have confirmed he ran the effort from 2010 onward in its unfunded phase. The claim of retrieved craft in Imminent rests on his account of briefings and has no public evidence behind it.
