Memorial do ET, Varginha (2025)
Varginha's memorial to the January 1996 story, photographed in 2025. A civic monument built on the witnesses' description; the Brazilian Army's 2010 statement attributed the creature to a mentally disabled local man.

The Army said the women saw a homeless man. A former defence minister discusses it in the corpus.

What was reported. On 20 January 1996 three young women in the Jardim Andere district said they saw a creature about 1.5 m tall with oily brown skin, large red eyes and three protuberances on its head crouched by a wall. Residents later said fire brigade and Army personnel captured one or more creatures earlier that day and that a military policeman who handled one died of infection weeks later. (FACT about the reports.)
What followed. Researchers Ubirajara Rodrigues and Vitório Pacaccini collected dozens of statements. The Army investigated and in 2010 released a report attributing the sighting to a homeless man nicknamed "Mudinho". The city adopted a UFO theme in its street furniture. A 2022 documentary, "Moment of Contact", revived the case. (FACT.)
What the corpus adds. The Brazil episode calls Varginha the country's Roswell and says a former officer, Rebello, acknowledges a 1996 crash, recovery and a non-human creature with slick brown skin. In the Lazar episode the host says he interviewed a witness who held material in his hands. (FACT about testimony; SPECULATION about the world.)
Explanations offered. The Army's homeless-man finding; a hoax built on rumour; or, per supporters, a recovery operation moved through the Escola de Sargentos das Armas to Campinas and the United States. (INFERENCE.)
