James Fox is a documentary film-maker whose Out of the Blue (2003), I Know What I Saw (2009), The Phenomenon (2020) and Moment of Contact (2022) are among the most watched films on the subject. The Phenomenon gathered interviews with officials including Harry Reid and John Podesta and revisited the 1994 Ariel School case in Zimbabwe; Moment of Contact examined the 1996 Varginha incident in Brazil with new witnesses. His 2016 filmed interview with Richard Doty, in which Doty described a programme holding a living being, has circulated widely.
Fox's films are documented artefacts and he is careful to present witnesses rather than conclusions, saying he edits as if arguing a case to a sceptic. What his witnesses say is testimony: the Varginha accounts, in particular, include a surgeon who says a being was treated at his hospital, and no records have been released.
