Asberg and Peter Lindberg found the Baltic Sea anomaly on side-scan sonar in June 2011 while hunting a champagne wreck, and later dived on it. Geologists who examined samples described natural rock; Asberg maintains the object's shape and effects on equipment are unexplained. He also reports a 1996 sighting in Sweden.
