In the corpus, Harald Malmgren is said to have been told by CIA officer Richard Bissell that the crash was real; the documentary basis is a set of letters of disputed provenance.

What was reported. Italian ufologists led by Roberto Pinotti say a bell-shaped craft crashed near Magenta, west of Milan, on 13 June 1933, and that the Mussolini government created a secret cabinet, RS/33, to study it. The account rests on typed letters and telegrams mailed anonymously to Pinotti in 1996, whose provenance has never been established. (FACT about the claim; SPECULATION about the event.)
What the corpus adds. In the Harald Malmgren episode, the host says Malmgren was told by Richard Bissell, the CIA officer behind Area 51, that the 1933 crash was real, and links the claim to material David Grusch reported. In the Robert Salas episode, Salas and the host discuss Pinotti's book and the Mussolini committee. Both are second- or third-hand accounts of a conversation, not documents. (FACT about testimony.)
Explanations offered. Skeptics treat the RS/33 papers as a modern fabrication because no original has been produced for examination and the letters contain anachronisms. Supporters argue the story predates Grusch and that Grusch's 2023 reference to a 1933 Italian recovery corroborates it. No archive of the Italian state has yielded a matching file. (INFERENCE on both sides.)
