For two decades the emblem of the Belgian wave: a black triangle with three white lights and a red centre. In 2011 the photographer said he had faked it with a painted polystyrene model. Kept as a link because of its place in the record; it is not evidence of a craft.

Witnesses describe the triangle as very large, very dark and very quiet. Jeremy Corbell relays Dylan Borland’s Langley account of “a large triangular shaped craft” at about 200 feet that “had zero sound”, and Borland himself, in a clip, calls it “one to two stories thick, equilateral triangle” with edges “90°” and a black “metallic flake paint” hull over which something like gold lava seemed to flow. A former Vandenberg AFB security responder says he “talked to five shaken witnesses who described a massive triangular craft larger than a football field” that “hovered silently for about 45 seconds” over their entry control point. An archival witness clip describes an object “larger than a football field” with “very very unusual lights”.
The shape runs through the best-known cases. Jesse Michels and Robert Hastings retell Rendlesham 1980, where James Penniston “approached a triangular Black Metallic craft”; James Fox describes Phoenix witnesses reporting “six lights in the shape of a triangle”; UAPGerb says leaked retrieval-programme descriptions were “many times triangular airframes”. David Grusch says pilots have described “large, you know, triangular crafts” that “hovered over them”. Peter Levenda observes that he now expects a triangle with lights whenever he hears a report — the triangle displaced the saucer as the default shape from the late 1980s.
Explanations split three ways. Corbell, Borland and others point to a classified US aircraft, the rumoured TR-3B, and Corbell says he was told the government has platforms that behave like this; Mick West and Ryan Graves treat aircraft formations, flares and misjudged distance as sufficient for the night-time cases, and West recalls a V-shaped object of his own that “turned out it was a flock of geese”; a third group treats the triangles as genuinely unknown. The corpus does not resolve which applies to which sighting.
