Mothership

The mothership idea rests on witnesses seeing a hierarchy of objects. Gary McKinnon says the Malmstrom material he read described “tic tacs or cigar- shaped objects” acting “like a mother ship” with smaller objects “flying out of the the tic tacs”, and calls it “definitely a mother ship kind of configuration”. Jesse Michels, discussing 2023 drone swarms over Langley, relays Christopher Mellon’s comment that there seemed to be a “mothership dynamic going on”, with “30 to 50” objects “flying independently of each other” and “hovering for hours”; elsewhere he summarises it as “Chris Melon said there’s a mother ship.”

Other uses are looser. An abduction witness says “gray mother ships” orbited at altitude and “launched the smaller” craft; a former NASA contractor’s 800-foot underwater object pacing a carrier group is read by some guests as a carrier of smaller vehicles. Avi Loeb’s proposal that interstellar objects could be motherships releasing probes is discussed as a hypothesis, not a sighting. The corpus therefore records two things under one word: a large witnessed hull, and a theoretical carrier.

Explanations offered: misjudged distance making a nearby object seem enormous, tankers or motherships in the literal drone sense (a large drone releasing smaller ones), and a genuinely large unknown object. The reports are few and rarely corroborated, so the pattern is banded thin.
